Chandelier installation, cleaning and removal in Chelsea

Chelsea’s garden-square terraces, painted stair halls and intimate reception rooms often combine elaborate period detail with restricted access. Our work is sequenced to protect both the chandelier and the character of the property.

The Chelsea brief

Quiet work for characterful interiors.

We look after chandeliers in Chelsea’s red-brick terraces, garden-square homes, private clubs and hospitality rooms. The full brief may include chandelier installation, chandelier cleaning, chandelier repair, chandelier removal, chandelier maintenance, load testing and bespoke chandelier care, arranged around residents, guests and the existing interior.

Narrow stairs, delicate joinery and a fitting positioned over a finished dining room all influence the method. Before installation, the structure is tested as part of the risk assessment; where the fixture weighs more than 20 kg, load is applied up to 50 per cent above its own weight while the fixture itself is never compromised.

The working sequence

From the garden square to the last crystal.

  1. 01

    Confirm the setting

We review the terrace, garden-square access, ceiling construction, fitting condition and the hours when the room can be made available.

  2. 02

    Cover the route

Stairs, timber floors, joinery, artwork and furnishings are protected before components, tools or access equipment enter the working area.

  3. 03

    Reach the fitting

The access plan accounts for narrow entrances and finished rooms. Scaffold towers are assembled by PASMA qualified specialists where a stable working platform is needed.

  4. 04

    Test before installing

We test the supporting structure before installation as part of the risk assessment. For chandeliers over 20 kg, the load test applies up to 50 per cent above the fixture’s own weight, with no compromise to the chandelier.

  5. 05

    Leave the room ready

The fitting is aligned, cleaned or repaired as agreed, the protection is removed and the owner receives clear guidance for future care.

Material knowledge

Finish matters in close rooms.

Crystal and glass are cleaned by hand where necessary, with special attention to the edges that catch light at dining-table height.

Painted plaster, timber joinery and polished floors are protected from access equipment and from contact with dismantled parts.

Gilded, brass and silver-toned surfaces are inspected for existing marks before a repair or cleaning treatment is chosen.

Older wiring positions and ceiling roses are considered alongside the fitting, rather than treated as separate workstreams.

Protection keeps the room composed.

The most successful Chelsea commission is discreet: the structure has been checked before installation, the access is controlled and the room shows no careless trace of the work. For fittings over 20 kg, we apply load up to 50 per cent above the chandelier’s own weight to the supporting structure, never to the fixture.

Questions, answered

Before the visit.

Can you access a chandelier in a Chelsea garden-square house?

Usually, yes. We review the entrance, stair, landing and room before confirming equipment. The access and protection plan is adjusted to the actual terrace or mansion layout.

How do you work around dinners, receptions or private events?

We can plan visits around the calendar of the house, club or venue. Cleaning and maintenance are often arranged in quieter periods, with the finishing check completed before guests return.

Can you work beneath Chelsea’s high ceilings without disturbing the room?

We can. Suitable scaffold access and protection are selected after reviewing the height, floor and furniture, and our specialists keep the working area controlled throughout.

Is out-of-hours work possible in Chelsea?

We can discuss out-of-hours access for a private home, club or venue where it reduces disruption. The timing, lighting and supervision requirements will be included in the quotation.

What permissions and insurance information should we provide?

Tell us about listed-building status, landlord or managing-agent conditions, venue requirements and any insurer instructions. We will use that information when setting the scope and access plan.

A considered next step

Discuss the room and fitting.

Please tell us where the chandelier is, what it is made from, and what work is required. We will clarify access and protection requirements and prepare a clear quotation for your Chelsea property.
